I was raised in a biracial, bicultural, and bilingual family. After completing a Master's degree in Linguistics and a TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate, I taught English in Japan, then began teaching Japanese after returning to Canada. 

I realized through my travels to and from Japan that many flight attendants who were non-native Japanese speakers struggled in certain areas, including culturally appropriate levels of formality and ease of communication with Japanese passengers.
